Restore, Refresh, Renew!

April 2023 Construction Status:

Demolition Underway

Prior to Monday April 10th, the entire contents of the kitchen & pantry had been boxed up by several of our funeral luncheon cooks & volunteers and ready for relocation. This cleared the way for our volunteer kitchen demolition team to remove all cabinets, countertops, ceiling tiles and soffits. Most of these items have been salvaged and sold.

On Monday morning April 10th, Ray’s Refrigeration arrived with an appliance cart and manpower to remove all heavy kitchen appliances. When 24 young men from our Columbian Squires arrived at noon on Monday, the entire contents of the basement were cleared out including all kitchen & pantry items, banquet room tables & chairs, restroom fixtures and partitions, and all remaining furniture.

Early Tuesday morning April 11th, 24 parish men & women volunteers (mostly retirees!) arrived and equipped with all tools needed to officially start the demolition process. By days end, all wood trim, doors, wainscot, ceiling tile, wood structures surrounding support columns, ceramic floor & wall tile from restrooms and majority of interior restroom walls were removed and hauled out of the basement.

On Wednesday morning April 12th, 15 parish men and women volunteers arrived to complete the demolition process of removing the panel board in the serving room, south entrance hallway and east entrance along with completion of the restroom demolition. By noon, all planned volunteer demolition work was complete.

Through the volunteer help of all these parish individuals, it is estimated that our basement restoration project saved over 35 work days of expense while helping reduce the overall project timeline for completion.

The basement is now closed off to the public as it is an active construction site. There are no operational restrooms in the basement. The handicap accessible restroom in the Church’s east wing is the only operational restroom inside the Church. Additional non-handicap accessible restrooms are available in the Fr Yauss center on mass days. Enter at street level and go up one flight of stairs and you’ll find the restroom along the south wall (facing the church).

You can remain current with the progress of this project without going into the basement through the photos and video that we’ll continue to post here under “Project status Updates”.
